If you are an adult French learner who wants to study in France, you may be relieved to find you have options beyond just study abroad programs for college students. Traveling to France to learn French in France as an adult to participate in a language program is a little less common, but is completely doable for people who are committed to learning and mastering the language.

About FRENCH COURSES FOR ADULTS IN FRANCE

The options below range from one week to long-term programs, many of which are at international schools. You can expect them to be taught by native speakers, and in most cases the program will have classes at various levels of language proficiencies, including courses for complete beginners.

Most courses will involve speaking, reading, and writing exercises to help you develop good written and verbal communication skills. They tend to place a particular emphasis on you being able to develop your conversational French skills, rather than focusing on your reading or writing proficiency (although the classes should help you there, too).

Some of the most well-established French courses are below (prices listed are as of January 2023).

Tip: When you’re looking at a course, pay attention not only to the published cost of the program, but what that cost includes — any meals? Any day trips? Also, check whether the program offers subsidized housing for students, which will almost certainly be much cheaper than you renting a hotel room or apartment for a few weeks or months in France.
